Privacy policy

The short version: no advertising, we never sell or share your data, and the analytics we use are set up to protect your privacy. Here is exactly what we count and keep, and why.

Who we are

Jews Impact (jewsimpact.com) is an independent, non-commercial website. The site is run on a professional hosting provider that delivers it securely over a global network. For any privacy question or request, please use our contact form.

What we count when you visit

To understand what people read, our host records an anonymous count of page views. For each visit this includes the page you opened, the site that referred you (if any), your approximate location (country, region and city, worked out from your connection), your type of device, browser and operating system, your browser’s language, and your network provider. Your IP address is shortened before it is stored, so the full address is not kept.

To tell one visit from the next without cookies, the site keeps a random visit number in your browser’s temporary session storage. It is not a cookie, it does not identify you, and your browser deletes it when you close the tab.

We do not count visits from browsers that identify themselves as automated, and we use these figures only to see which pages are read and to improve the site.

Google Analytics

We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used as a whole: how many people visit, which pages they read, how long they stay and how they found us (for example a search engine or a link). Google Analytics sets its own first-party cookies (such as _ga) to tell visits apart, and we have it set to anonymize IP addresses. We see only combined, anonymous reports, never who you are.

Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, and we have not linked it to any advertising product. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on, or by blocking cookies for this site. It is not loaded for our own admin, for local previews or for automated browsers.

What you type into our search boxes

When you search the People or Facts pages, we keep the words you searched for and how many results they found, along with the same anonymous details as a page view. This helps us add the people and facts readers are looking for. Searches are not linked to your name.

Messages you send us

If you use our contact, nomination or editor forms, we receive what you write, including your name and email address if you give them, together with basic technical details such as your approximate location and device. These messages are stored with our host so we can read and reply to them. We use them only to answer you and to improve the site, and we do not share them.

Services that load content on our pages

Like most websites, our pages load a few things from other services, which receive your IP address and basic browser details when they do:

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We do not use their advertising features.

Sharing buttons

Our Share buttons are plain links. Nothing is sent to a social network unless you choose to share, and then only to the network you pick.

How long we keep information

We keep visit counts, searches and messages only as long as they are useful for running and improving the site, and messages for as long as needed to reply. You can ask us to delete a message you sent at any time.

Your choices and rights

You can browse Jews Impact without giving us any personal information. You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to us through the contact form. Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA may give you additional rights, and we will honour them.

You can also block or clear site storage in your browser settings at any time; the site will still work.

Children

Jews Impact is suitable for readers of all ages and is used in classrooms. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If a child has sent us a message, a parent or guardian can ask us to delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
