Jusidman family gives NIS 200 million for what will be Israel's largest rehab hospital
The roughly $68.5 million gift will help Reuth build a 540-bed rehabilitation hospital in north Tel Aviv, easing one of the biggest gaps in Israel's health system.
Daniel Jusidman, a Mexican Israeli businessman who built his fortune in the hardware trade, has given NIS 200 million, about $68.5 million, through the Jusidman Family Charitable Foundation to help create what is expected to become Israel's largest rehabilitation hospital. The gift was announced on June 15, 2026, and is the family's largest single donation to date.
The new Jusidman Rehabilitation Hospital will be run by the Reuth Association, which has operated a public rehabilitation hospital in Tel Aviv's Yad Eliyahu neighborhood for 65 years and is affiliated with Tel Aviv University's medical faculty. Reuth will move to a new campus on the site of the former Sde Dov airfield in north Tel Aviv. Plans call for about 540 beds, an expanded day-rehabilitation unit, a hydrotherapy pool, a trauma clinic, specialized institutes, a research and development hub and green spaces for patients and families. The project is expected to cost about $390 million in total, with the rest coming from the city through the Tel Aviv Foundation, the state and other donors. Construction is expected to take about six years.
Rehabilitation care, which helps patients recover function after an injury, stroke, surgery or serious illness once they are out of immediate danger, has long been underfunded in Israel. A 2024 Health Ministry report found the country had only 60 percent of the OECD average number of rehabilitation beds. Reuth's chairman, Dr. Nachman Ash, a former director-general of the Health Ministry, said demand has grown sharply because of an aging population and recent events, and that the gift will let the hospital treat many more rehabilitation and geriatric patients in far better conditions.
The Jusidman family, which divides its time between Mexico City and Tel Aviv, has long supported Israeli universities, civil society groups and hospitals, including a new emergency department at Rabin Medical Center and the Jusidman Cancer Center at Sheba. Daniel Jusidman told eJewishPhilanthropy he hopes the new facility will become the best rehabilitation hospital in the country.
“It has to be the best rehabilitation hospital in Israel.”
A large, modern rehabilitation hospital will help thousands of people each year regain independence after strokes, injuries, trauma and illness, in a country with a recognized shortage of rehabilitation beds. It also signals growing philanthropic attention to a part of medicine that is often overlooked.
